Architectural Expertise Crafted for Enduring Impact

Greg is an architect who blends the art of design with the science of shelter.  A philosophy that has guided his 40-year career as an architect, educator, and humanitarian.

EARLY CAREER

Having loved carpentry and building as a youth and young adult, Greg turned his attention toward the broader scope of building design and construction.  Prior to graduation, Greg was hired by a professor to prepare illustrations for a drafting textbook for John Wiley and Sons, the publisher.  His thirteen years with his first employer were formative, and his passion for architecture and construction established.  Greg obtained his California license in 1989.

He moved his family to Colorado Springs in 1996, where he joined The LKA Partners, Inc., becoming a principal architect/owner until 2014 when he started his own firm.  Greg began splitting his time between Colorado Springs and Telluride in 2020 and settled permanently in December of 2023.

PHILOSOPHY

Over his 40-year career, Greg has learned to appreciate the integration of the art of architecture with the science of shelter, and this philosophy has been the guiding principle behind all his projects.  To this end, he taught himself structural mechanics to better his skills at joining the engineering with the aesthetics.  Ultimately, the goal is to articulate the structure with the design.

EDUCATOR

Greg discovered a love for teaching and sharing his knowledge of building design and construction to a new generation at Pikes Peak State College.  He was head of the Architecture and Construction Management department for about seven years.  He developed curriculum based on the “science of shelter” philosophy, which is foundational knowledge for both Architectural and Construction Management students.  This experience has been a highlight of his career.

HUMANITARIAN

Architecture is a skill transportable to all cultures, and shelter is a need common to every culture in the world.  In 2010 Greg began applying his skills to benefit widows and orphans in sub-Saharan Africa.  Working with other professionals, he provided design assistance for projects in Ghana and Kenya, including children’s homes (orphanages), housing, schools, and churches.  Most notably, a multi-use and multi-story building in the Methare Valley Slum outside of Nairobi.  Priceless relationships have been the reward.

Today, Greg continues to design with purpose, merging building science, beauty, and humanity in every project.
